The SMA is a non-profit trade association dedicated to reducing stairway accidents through research and testing, education, and development of professional standards. If you are involved in the Stair Industry but unable to join us, please consider the value of your contribution to our efforts.  If you are a member, your donation in addition to your dues is appreciated and will go a long way toward achieving our mission.

  • SMA Funded Testing and Research provides valuable scientific information related to stairway standards of quality, structure and building safety
  • SMA Education programs provide valuable learning for Architects, Builders, Building Officials and SMA Members
  • SMA publications are developed and disseminated at little or no cost, subsidized in large part by member-volunteer efforts and contributions.
