Join us in Pittsburgh and focus on the pivots you can make to positively impact various aspects of your business.  We look forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as we network, learn and celebrate the incredible 35 years of the SMA at the 2023 Annual Conference. 

    The conference kicks off on Thursday, April 27th with the annual SMA Golf event, a fun day for golfers of all levels. Non-golfers will be able to participate in a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater House, a National Historic Landmark.   

    The Welcome Reception with SMA exhibitors will take place on Thursday evening, and the SMA Auction will be Friday night.  The fun will continue Saturday evening with the 15th Annual StairCraft Awards Reception and Banquet, where this year's winners will be announced!

    Our keynote presentation by Elliot Eisenburgh, AKA the Bowtie Economist, will help provide clarity as you learn more about the economic predictions for 2023 and beyond. His unique, comical perspective that will leave you with a common sense understanding of future market expectations. This year's general session will include the attendee favorite "How We Did It" presentations from our 2022 StairCraft Award Winners and Wayne Herring will be joining us as we talk about communication processes that work.  Breakout sessions will focus on Surviving the Changing World, Understanding the Emerging Employee Mentality, Exit Strategies for Business Owners and Being a Strong #2. 

    The conference program is packed full of networking and educational experiences that will help you perfect your pivot at the SMA Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!

  • 2023 SMA Golf Event

    Enjoy this causal, fun day of golf with fellow stair industry professionals (not golf professionals).

    8:00 am - 3:00 pm

    Participants will enjoy this prestigious event full of laughter, camaraderie and bragging rights.  Golfers will compete in our unique stair part challenges such as the newel post driving competition and the baluster putting competition.   

    Everyone is guaranteed a FUN experience and welcome to participate regardless of player skill level.  Our scramble format equalizes play and makes the event enjoyable for all players. 

    The cost for this year’s event is just $169 per player.  Rental clubs are available for $40 a set. Requests to be paired with other players will be accommodated as much as possible.


    All participants must be registered for the SMA Annual Conference or be an attendee's guest.

  • 2023 Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater House Tour

    9:00 am - 4:00 pm

    Board our private charter for a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater House, a National Historic Landmark and a site inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. You will begin your excursion by seeing the museum and having lunch.  Then, enjoy the fascinating architecture and breathtaking views as your explore the home.  A half-mile walk will lead you up the path to the home. Enjoy the "Birdseye View" and the "Iconic View" before departing for Pittsburgh. You will arrive back at the Sheraton in time to join the 2023 SMA Annual Conference Welcome Reception with our Exhibitors and dinner on Pittsburgh. 

    The cost for this event is just $109 per person.  The fee includes transportation, lunch, and admission to the Fallingwater House.  Oh, and, accessibility options are available, please call the SMA Office at 877-500-5759 to discuss your needs!  

    This event is open to SMA Annual Conference registrants and their guests only.

  • Stairbuilders Hall of Shame

    We have all seen them. Those stair projects that are worthy of an award for their lack of craftsmanship! Now, we know that these are not stairs built by our incredible members, but rather stairs you have seen when replacing the craptastic work of someone else.  Share the horror stories in this fun Hall of Shame competition which will be shared at the SMA Annual Conference in Pittsburgh on April 28th!

  • SMA Annual Business Meeting

    The SMA's Annual Business Meeting will take place on Saturday, April 29th at 12:30 PM ET at the SMA Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 

    Updates will be given by the SMA President, Treasurer, Code Representative, President-Elect and Committee Chairs.  There will also be a time for you, as a member, to ask questions.
